The Quadruped DB Row

November 5, 2017 by Austin Wasserman Leave a Comment

The DB Row works many muscles of your back…Mid/Lower Traps, Deltoids, Rhomboids, Lats and Biceps are among the main muscle groups being used.
It’s usually performed unilaterally with 1-Arm (in various set ups), and adds a core component that resists rotation when the rowing motion occurs. Posterior Upper Body Posterior Strength is important in baseball and softball players for deceleration of the throwing arm and trunk as the arm moves through the throwing zone to release. This is critical to long term shoulder health! ROW! ROW! ROW!
The Quadruped DB Row
We’ve altered the set-up for athletes that were having a difficult time understanding pelvic positioning.
In this kneeling (quadruped position), the ground will act as the end point. Your non-lifting arm will be on a fixed position, typically a plate or a medicine ball. We cue our athletes to keep the body as rigid as possible and pull the elbow towards the ribcage, with a slight trunk rotation to help scapular movement.
